Experience on Both Sides

A defense strategy shaped by seeing how the government builds a case.

Jason served on active duty as an Army Judge Advocate, prosecuting cases and advising commanders within the military justice system. That work provided a clear view of how the government investigates allegations, evaluates evidence, develops witnesses, and makes decisions about a case.

He has also represented clients in private criminal defense matters in Indianapolis and Indiana courts. That work brings the focus back to the person facing the accusation—the consequences for a client’s freedom, reputation, family, work, and future.

Today, Jason serves as a Trial Defense Attorney in the Army Reserve, defending soldiers and preparing cases with the discipline that serious matters require. He has seen these cases from both sides. That perspective does not promise an outcome, but it does shape how he prepares: carefully, directly, and with attention to what the state must prove.

The Defense Approach

How Jason Approaches a Case

A serious accusation deserves clear advice, careful preparation, and a strategy built around the actual facts—not assumptions about what a case should be.

Review Early

Start with the Facts

Review the facts, the state’s evidence, the procedural posture, and the decisions that need to be made as early as possible.

Communication

Know What to Expect

Explain the available options, likely next steps, and meaningful risks directly and honestly as the matter develops.

Preparation

Prepare for the Real Possibilities

Develop the evidence, arguments, and strategy needed for the case, including a willingness to take a matter to trial when that is the right call.

Protection

Protect What Comes Next

Keep sight of the client’s record, family, work, and future while making decisions about the immediate case.

A Focused Practice

Limited representation for serious criminal matters.

Criminal defense is a focused part of the practice. The firm considers serious offenses and related matters where careful preparation, candid advice, and meaningful advocacy are needed.

The right scope of representation depends on the accusation, the court, the stage of the case, and the client’s circumstances. Some matters call for early advice or a targeted hearing. Others require sustained preparation for negotiations, motions, or trial.

No lawyer can promise a particular result. The first step is an honest conversation about the facts, the immediate decisions, and whether the matter is a fit for the practice.

Questions About Criminal Defense

Straight answers about the first decisions.

General information can help you prepare for a conversation. Every criminal matter is different, and this page is not legal advice.

Do I need a lawyer if I have not been charged yet?

Sometimes early advice can help you avoid preventable mistakes and understand what may happen next. If you believe you are under investigation, do not assume that waiting is always the best course. Every situation is different, and this information is not legal advice.

What does “limited criminal defense” mean?

Limited representation means the scope of the work is defined around the matter and services agreed upon with the client. It may involve advice, a specific hearing, case preparation, negotiations, or trial representation rather than every possible legal service.

How much does it cost to talk to you?

The cost depends on the nature of the matter, the stage of the case, and the representation needed. A consultation is the opportunity to discuss the circumstances, determine whether the matter is a fit, and explain the next step and any applicable fee.

What should I do—or not do—right after an arrest?

Stay calm, do not discuss the facts with anyone except your lawyer, and do not consent to a search without understanding your rights. Do not delete messages, post about the matter, or contact an alleged victim or witness. Ask for counsel and follow the specific advice given for your circumstances.

Do you handle cases outside Henry County?

The practice is based in Henry County and serves clients throughout East-Central Indiana. Whether a matter outside Henry County is a fit depends on the court, the location, the facts, and the scope of representation needed.
